Ellen Mary Hayes

There is a trilogy of crises unfolding: covid-19, the uprising around the murder of George Floyd and economic vulnerabilities. I feel a call: “Do I close, or do I create?” Creativity has always helped me cope with my disability, but now expression has taken on a new resonance. Scattered images have transformed into a language I call Hieroglyphs. They reflect themes of creating sacred homes, speaking out for human rights, and meditations on the natural world. Each Hieroglyph is dressed in a black 4x4 inch frame. Each with the ultimate message: “Hold hope like doves in hands.”
