Anita Hunt

I began this series of drawings in the early weeks of the shutdown when my usual medium of printmaking felt impossibly out of reach. I couldn't focus on anything for more than a few minutes and I needed to find something fast and immediate to still my mind. Small drawing felt doable. I tried to draw a little while everyday and keep it simple. I was thinking about how each of us was marooned on whatever island we happened to occupy when the music stopped, alone or with family members, pets, friends or maybe with strangers, forced to contain our lives in ways we'd probably never imagined having to do for an unknown duration. Some quarantine households would be lonelier than others, some livelier, some more chaotic, fearful, even monstrous. I imagined the islands floating in a fog of uncertainty, isolated but together in the experience.
