Shane Mecklenburger

On May 20, 1988 my mother was acting principal at Hubbard Woods Elementary during one of the first modern mass school shootings. While I was far away and am not technically a survivor, being so close to what my mother experienced left a deep impression. These works reflect on the proliferation of guns and glorifying gun imagery in the U.S. They are made from children’s toys and 3D models made for shooter games, where the player inhabits the gun, and the gun becomes a substitute for the body.
