West Springfield High School photography students captured the beauty of their surroundings in a backyard shooting assignment.  They were asked to look beyond ‘things’ and find shapes, textures, lines, contrast, etc., that had been previously overlooked. The result are these thoughtful black and white images that offer a glimpse into their world.

This lighthearted series illustrates every day idioms by pairing miniatures with colorful penny candy.  The approach is minimalist, playing with the depth of field to momentarily distort our perspectives of space and place.  The pairing focuses attention on the texture and composition that we overlook.  And the miniatures engage our childlike sense of wonder.
