“These images, in hanging scroll format, are composed of details of my paintings layered, and sometimes overlain, with photographs I have taken during my travels. As a poem can be said to paint an image, here the two artforms of painting and photography combine to form a poetic narrative. They find their ‘voice’ in rhythmic patterns, stanzaic structure, calligraphic gesture, juxtaposition of subjects, tone, color, mirrored repetition, and such. They are a response to my experience of our ancestral record and history, commonality of language and expression, the natural world, its beauty, and our effect upon it.”
