Beauty in the eye of the Camera Beholder

Photography and writing are what challenge me to look for beauty and meaning in the everyday. It’s my way of capturing and sharing the thoughts, observations, and lessons I experience in my own journeys, be it to the supermarket or the outback of Australia. My approach to photography is to always be looking for that unique and interesting angle that can make the otherwise ordinary extraordinary. My approach to writing is similar. I believe we’re rarely more than a stone’s throw away from a good metaphor at any given moment. There may be a good fiction novel in me yet, but the bulk of my prose is about finding meaning in moments.

After enjoying a 13 year career in high technology and using a startup shutdown as a launching point, I spent two years basking in travel adventures and self-discovery. The hiatus game me the opportunity to write my first book, “Hand-me-Downs: Some Just Slightly Used Tips on Life for my Little Brother”, traverse the country, and backpack through Australia and New Zealand. Somewhere along the way, I decided it might be a opportune time to try something new. So three years ago, I created Mt. Tom’s Homemade Ice Cream & Candy Store in Easthampton, Massachusetts. My photography and writing has always resided in ‘hobby’ status, while and the demands of local ice cream man make it tough in the summer, the ‘off-season’ gives me the perfect opportunity to hone my writing and photography skills.~Numerous short stories published in local newspapers including Daily Hampshire Gazette and Lawrence Eagle Tribune. Honorable Mention Manhan Rail Photo Contest On-going photo exhibit, Mt. Tom’s Homemade Ice Cream. Photo exhibits, The Ice Creamery, Randolph, MA & Dave’s World, Foxboro, MA. Completed manuscript, “Hand-me-Downs: Some Just Slightly Used Tips on Life”, represented by Alison Picard, Literary Agent.
