Below and Within

Below and Within explores the underwater world – primarily fish, turtles and frogs – and what it stirs within artists Julie Kumble and Martha Brouwer.  As individuals, fish appear beautiful, strange, vulnerable.  In groups, particularly in massive shoals, they’re powerful and they convey hope of the collective.  By engaging with the paintings, the artists hope that viewers will also feel a reverence for what they don’t normally see, and in turn increase their conscience and actions in protecting our waters.
