The Reality of the Situation

I want the audience to have an “in” outside the exclusivity of art-world sensibilities. At the same time, I want to allow room for both cultural critique and senseless absurdity. The results can range from too-offhand to too-on-the-nose, but I think there’s a general balance between the two.
These pieces span a number of years. Some of the earliest were made with a certain amount of smugness. Lately I’ve been wondering how much my work has been critiquing dominant culture, vs. how much it has been centering it. To that end, if there’s any smugness left, may it be directed towards privilege.
