Fafnir Adamites

After months of little motivation to make work in my studio, Accidental Necessity was created out of obligation: The abaca paper pulp that was left unused for so long was beginning to mold. There was something poetic about this urgent moment - It wasn’t just my materials that were going bad, it felt like my resolve was rotting away as well. During this pandemic, I am very aware of the parts of me that are weakened, that are more easily triggered, that are resigned to the state of things. Accidental Necessity hasn’t changed any of that but it has stepped in as an embodiment of some conflicting characteristics that I have always appreciated. It can be fragile at the same time that it is resilient. It can trigger transformation and also be stabilizing.
