The show will be up until March 28th. \nMonotypes and monoprints are “singular” one-of-a-kind and unique art works. Dating back to the 17th century\, the monotype process offers the artist an opportunity for direct visual expression using hand-pulled techniques. \nThe exhibition includes prints by more than 20 artists and is a special Western Mass regional exhibition of the Monotype Guild of New England. \nExhibiting artists are Lisa Barthelson\, Linda Batchelor\, Joan Dix Blair\, Valerie Carrigan\, Alexandra Cherau\, Clara Kent Dennison\, Olwen Dowling\, Elisa Lanzi\, Paul Lewis\, Archibald Macinnes\, Doris Madsen\, Marjorie Morgan\, Lynn Peterfreund\, Connie Pogue\, Erika Radich\, Jan Ruby\, Bobbie Salthouse\, Edda Sigurðardóttir\, Nancy Whitcher\, Esther White\, Janet Winston and Joan Safford Wright. \nThis program is supported in part by a grant from the Easthampton Cultural Council\, a local agency which is sponsored by the Mass Cultural Council\, a state agency. \nWe are also proud to be a plastic-free Art Walk venue. DESCRIPTION:This Art Walk at LOCAL we continue our beautiful exhibit with the spectacular art of 3 amazing local artists. \nGrounded in a love of the natural world\, the work of Amanda Quinby\, Catherine Gibbs and Adell Donaghue explores Light as the subject. Using a variety of materials\, including gilded surfaces\, oil on canvas\, and graphite and ink on paper\, these artists offer a panoply of interpretations of both the idea and phenomenon of Light. For each of these artists\, the exploration of Light is the primary subject. \nOil painter Gibbs describes her paintings as a way of “becoming attentive to the splendid drama of the everyday world.” Gilder and photographer Quinby notes her “ongoing fascination with the mercurial role of light and its influence on how we see the world.” Painter and printmaker Donaghue describes the “transformation of physical materials into light as a deeply spiritual experience.” \nPlease join us!

SUMMARY:The Art of the Word
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the Opening of #LOCAL Gallery’s latest exhibit\, “The Art of the Word” on April 13th from 5-8pm\, coinciding with Easthampton’s Bookfest. The exhibit explores the power of the word as it shows up in different art forms. We’ll look at how a word or sets of words can create a meaning that images alone could not\, and how the addition of a word can add a whole new level to a piece of art. The words can also give us more of an understanding of the artist’s creativity\, thoughts and feelings. \nAt 6pm we will be presenting a unique improv dance performance\, “Art_Words_Movement” performed by Michelle Marroquin\, Katelyn Cramer\, Danica Holoviak\, and Zazie Tobey with the live music of Tony Silva. \nThroughout the month #LOCAL will explore and expose different avenues of art that are used to communicate such as poetry\, video\, and storytelling: Music\, Monologues\, & Storytelling on April 20th from 6-8 and Poetry Night Out on May 1st from 6-8.

This exhibition will feature paintings\, drawings\, prints\, and mixed media\, all of which will explore nature and the abstract world from these perspectives. \nThe months of March and April are at the cusp of springtime\, and the intimate nature of humankind is kindled during the season. Infinite possibilities stretch ahead with summer\, fall\, and winter in an endless cycle. SUMMARY:Beyond the Surface
DESCRIPTION:“Beyond the Surface” is a celebration of the visual language of art that is steeped in history and traditions. This exhibit represents the merging of two artists\, Lynne Adams and Michael MacTavish\, whose optimism and keen love of nature form the unifying thread of their art. How it speaks to them and what arises for them within can be seen in their work. However\, the way these conversations with nature show up on their canvases is very different. \nThere is so much going on on the surface of each piece of art\, but at the same time the surface is hinting at a much more in depth calling to a deeper and more profound sense of what is. It is the suggestion of mystery that is so important to Michael and Lynne’s work. The beauty on the surface is merely a guidepost for you to delve into what is beyond. \nLynne and Michael were exploring new approaches to their painting and thought it would be interesting to exhibit work that resulted from their explorations. They have a strong affinity for each others’ art\, and they were curious to see how their work might resonate using similar motifs such as trees\, sky\, mountains and water. \nTheir impressionistic styles are soothing and inviting\, bringing a sense of peacefulness and tranquility. They explore the use of color and vibrancy in a way that allows the viewer to create his or her own understanding of the painting while enjoying the sense of familiarity.

If you’ve seen the show\, you could even try to dress to match one of the paintings! \nThis show\, with twelve local artists\, was organized and curated with the help of a master of color\, color consultant Amy Woolf. \n“An Excursion In Color” drops you right into the wild\, exciting world of color. Colors have their own vibrations and can affect us in a myriad of ways – emotionally\, psychologically\, and aesthetically. Come experience something completely different as the artists share their perceptions of color in various mediums\, styles and presentations. \nDan Prindle will also be on hand to share his beautiful music while Passalongs Farm and Floral Studio with add the beauty of exquisite fresh flowers.
