I appreciate the ordinary as well as the exotic or extravagant. The curve in a spindle\, the patina of chipped paint or oxidized metal\, the grain of weathered hardwood\, bobbins\, latches and all sorts of odds and ends inspire me to integrate a variety of materials\, textures and color. I create something new with old and discarded relics. Over time things weather and change and this can be beautiful and graceful when brought together. \nMy artistic journey revolves around the transformative power of reclamation and reinterpretation. With careful curation\, I breathe new life into these remnants\, crafting visual tales that resonate with both nostalgia and innovation. \nI aim to uncover the inherent beauty in the weathered and the imperfect\, offering a fresh perspective on what is often overlooked. SUMMARY:"Amanda Barrow: Conversations With Water"
DESCRIPTION:Amanda Barrow will exhibit her unique paintings and monotype one-of-a-kind prints at the Elusie Gallery at Big Red Frame from September 6-27\, 2025\, in a show entitled “Conversations With Water”. All artworks are inspired by her keen observations and interactions with water – for example\, either swimming in or under the ocean water or in pools\, sitting on top of water while kayaking in the Connecticut River or the Atlantic Ocean\, listening to waves gurgle and crash\, or watching icicles melt on Mt Tom in Holyoke\, MA. Giant color grids of color blocks will fill the gallery walls\, as well as thin slices of painted landscapes will be seen.  Additionally\, a special artist’s talk and musical event will take place on Thursday\, September 25 from 6-7.30pm (thanks to a grant from the Easthampton Cultural Council & Mass Cultural Council). Join us in celebrating Amanda’s 40 years of artmaking!

Visual artist Amanda Barrow will discuss her exhibition “Conversations with Water” at the Elusie Gallery Immediately afterwards\, musicians Carl Clements and Darryl Harper will ”Play to the Artwork”\, improvising while responding to the art on the wall. For one hour\, the two musicians will create a dedicated sonar meditation. What is shared with the viewer/listener is an experience which will be absolutely ”of the moment”.

DESCRIPTION:THE ELUSIE GALLERY \nArtWalk and Reception: Saturday August 2nd\, 4-7pm\nNancy Moriarty was born and grew up in Holyoke and taught for many years in the Holyoke Public School System\, notably the John J. Lynch middle school. She was also an accomplished artist\, with a special gift for pastel paintings. \nSadly\, Nancy did not survive her battle with cancer. Her dear friend Maureen Cepiel came in possession of many of Moriarty’s pastels\, and came up with the idea of creating a fundraiser to honor her legacy and talent\, and to help two organizations that were important in her life: The Cancer House of Hope in West Springfield and the Halfway Home Cat Rescue in Chicopee. Nancy loved cats and adopted several through this organization. \nThis exhibit fundraiser will take place at the Elusie Gallery in August\, with 100% of the net proceeds from the sales going to these organizations. The Elusie Gallery will forgo its usual gallery commission to keep the prices affordable and to donate as much money as possible. \nWhether you care about animal rescue\, or cancer has struck a bit too close to home\, or you simply like cats\, or delicate paintings\, we invite you to the Opening Reception\, Saturday August 2nd from 4 to 7pm. \nThis exhibit runs until Saturday August 30th at noon\, the Elusie Gallery is open when Big Red Frame is open

SUMMARY:THE AWAKENING - Rosemary Barrett
DESCRIPTION:June 7\, 2025 – June 28\, 2025 \n\n\n\n\n\n\nArtWalk and Artist Reception: Saturday June 7\, 4-7pm\n\n\n\nRosemary Barrett is an accomplished artist who has shown her work in Europe and the US for the past three decades.\nMs. Barrett comes from a long line of artists and craftsmen who exposed her to ideas and techniques that have influenced her sculpture and painting. Art is important in the Barrett family and Rosemary’s love and exploration started early. Awards in High School and College include a full Ford Foundation Scholarship and various museum scholarships.\nAssemblage is among Ms. Barrett’s early accomplishments. They explore poetic themes with found objects arranged in delicate boxes. In the Joseph Cornell tradition they exemplify the power of duality and extemporaneous fusion. The influence of assemblage is evident in her sculpture and painting as well.\nAt St. John the Divine in NYC\, Ms. Barrett worked within the resident program for The Fantasy Foundation with Gregg Wyatt\, developing skills for cold casting and bronze work. She carries that knowledge and aesthetic to the studio when teaching students sculpture. \n\nThis exhibit will showcase a selections of her floral paintings\, larger than life in more ways than one\,  and an appropriate subject matter for this Spring Season. \n\n

SUMMARY:Eli Helman: Maximalist Ink Drawings
DESCRIPTION:About the Artist:\nSelf-taught artist Eli Helman grew up in Framingham\, Massachusetts before attending college at American University in Washington\, DC. Shortly thereafter\, he moved to Tucson\, Arizona where\, motivated by blank walls in his apartment and a fascination with the landscapes and wildlife of the American West\, he began experimenting with pencil sketching. \nUpon returning to New England a few years later\, he discovered Micron pens. Since then he has spent thousands of hours meticulously crafting highly detailed ink drawings. Emphasizing intricately drawn lines and patterns\, he explores eclectic subjects through a blend of whimsical and thought provoking imagery. Inspired by music\, humor\, travel\, nature\, science and history\, he hopes viewers will find something new — or at least have a good chuckle — every time they gaze upon his work. \nAll original works are drawn by hand with Micron pens on paper.  Some pieces take over 200 hours to complete. \nSince 2010 he has been a full-time artist traveling around the country showing his work at art festivals.  He lives in Western Massachusetts.

DESCRIPTION:The Elusie Gallery: June 8 – July 6\nComposed of land\, sea\, and sky\, the perspective in these new works is both from above looking down to earth’s surface\, and from below looking to the sky. The paintings are roomy\, distant\, vast. Yet\, because they are (mostly) small in physical dimension\, the viewer’s journey can still be intimate\, as if in spite of the spaciousness\, it is possible to explore and hold the scenes within one’s gaze. \nThe vantage point arose in response to the increasing precarity\, division\, and conflict in the world around us\, events taking place on solid ground and changes in the air and sea that threaten the life as we know it on our planet. There is reassurance In recalling that human life is grounded in the land and that the sky\, ever-changing\, represents the potential for welcome developments. Though some of the paintings contain disturbances or agitation\, others are peaceful and offer respite. In both rising above the fray and in coming down to earth there is a settling\, a landing.

DESCRIPTION:The Garden: A Center for Grieving Children and Teens – a program of Cooley Dickinson VNA & Hospice proudly presents \nArt with Heart.\nA program where local artists work with grieving kids ages 5-18 from across western Massachusetts to create Art with Heart\, as a way of reinforcing the connection between the head\, heart\, and hand to help people express their feelings around grief. \nThe artwork made in this unique program serves as a “container” for one’s feelings that arise. Participating artists lead small-group sessions teaching kids their art medium. \nAll artwork created is shown throughout western Massachusetts in different venues throughout 2022 and 2023. Including this exhibit at the Elusie Gallery.

DESCRIPTION:February 9 – March 4\, 2022.\nArtists Recption Thursday Feb. 9\, 5:00pm – 8:00pm\nPart of ArtWalk Easthampton.\nThe Elusie Gallery is switching things around for its traditional February Group exhibit\, by having Words being the featured elements of the exhibit\, and Images taking the supportive role.\nWriters\, poets and other wordsmiths will display written material on the walls of the gallery\, in a variety of ways\, all with Passion as the theme. \nParticipants will be invited to read their work during the reception. \nA selection of artwork\, with the same theme of Passion\, will also be displayed\, withe the hope of some “match making” between visual in literary art.
