DESCRIPTION:Hailing from a generations old Vermont based folk music family\, Ida Mae Specker is a musical force of nature and her CitySpace debut on April 5 is not to be missed! \nFollowing a free fiddle workshop led by Specker and the 4th monthly CitySpace Bluegrass\, Ida Mae and her band will have audiences stompin’\, singin’\, and even cryin’. Specker is known for “playing a rambunctious version of old-time music that owes as much to punk rock as Appalachia\, at least in attitude.” \nTickets are $20 advance and $25 at the door. \nShow at 8:00pm\, April 5th. \nA 3rd generation fiddle player\, Ida Mae Specker was born in a one room cabin in the woods of Vermont. A longtime member of family band ‘The Speckers\,’ hailed by Vermont Public Radio as “Vermont Folk Heroes\,” Ida Mae fuses original\, contemporary\, and traditional material\, bringing heartfelt new life and relevance to the chain of American folk music. Currently touring as a solo artist and with a backing band\, her live show features Specker’s original songs in addition to creative arrangements of traditional old-time tunes\, bluegrass and country songs. \nFunded in part by the New England States Touring program of the New England Foundation for the Arts\, made possible with funding from the National Endowment for the Arts Regional Touring Program and the six New England state arts agencies.

Indë will be live painting  during Art Walk. \nIndë was born and raised on Norwottuck land (Northampton) to Afro-Caribbean American heritage\, and their recent work redresses the absence of queer BIPoC in this white-dominated area who might have served as role models in their youth. Their touring exhibition\, Mirror\, Mirror\, explores this subject through painting\, sculpture\, recorded music\, and live performance. \nMasks are required for this event.

SUMMARY:THIS LONG ARC: fiber sculptures by Terry Jenoure at ECA Gallery
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition speaks to themes of freedom from old patterns. Breaking from previous artistic approaches\, Terry Jenoure’s fiber sculptures are mostly unplanned shapes built almost exclusively with recycled cotton. During the artwalk on August 10\, two listening stations will be set up. These feature an experiment she made on my violin. Creating a notation system for herself\, she read the sculptures as musical “scores\,” translating their visual characteristics into music.  Sound engineer Warren Amerman then further sculpted the sounds digitally.
