SUMMARY:Easthampton Clay Gallery: Featured Artist Lexie Burke
DESCRIPTION:Easthampton Clay is a new and growing ceramics community with a large\, well-equipped studio space that is shared by a diverse group of ceramic artists and potters. Come to our gallery opening reception celebrating the work of featured member artist\, Lexie Burke! You’ll get an opportunity to talk with Lexie about their work and discover the work of over 20 member artists.  \nHere’s what Lexie has to say: \nMy names Lexie and I’m a painter turned Potter. In 2019 I picked up a paint brush for the first time in over a decade and it’s the best thing I ever did for myself. Since then art and pottery have truly been therapy to me. There’s something about the world getting quiet and your mind shutting off that makes it so peaceful. I love making bright pottery pieces with color and I tend to always make mugs. (Probably my tea drinking habit\, there’s something so comforting about a nice pottery mug). My paintings tend to change on the pottery from what season it is\, whether it’s ocean or Halloween\, etc. It’s nice because each functional mug comes with a unique hand painted art piece!

SUMMARY:Before Color - Photographs by Peter Schlessinger
DESCRIPTION:Peter entered creative photography more than 50 years ago at a time when color imagery was generally seen as commercial and vulgar\, while the “purity” of the black-to-white tonal spectrum was felt (somewhat paradoxically) better-suited to both: a) the artistic-aesthetic transmission of meaning — and b) the pursuit of documentary objectivity. It was in the exploration of both those aspects that he first found my creative footing. \nGallery Talk: Saturday\, September 24th\, 11 am – noon

SUMMARY:Foundations— Geometry\, Color\, and Other Curious Phenomena\, KC Scott
DESCRIPTION:The Exhibition contains drawings\, paintings\, Digital works\, and archival prints completed over the course of 55 years.  \nKC Scott returned to art full time following a nearly 50 year career in graphics and advertising. Educated at the Art Institute of Chicago\, Yale University\, School of Visual arts (NYC)\, he holds an MFA from University of Massachusetts. His work has been shown locally in the Valley and in New York City. He has been a member of the Oxbow Gallery since 2017.  \nScott says “Geometry\, color\, symmetry\, periodicity\, mathematical constants\, and mathematical oddities such as the Fibonacci sequence— I find these building blocks of perception and understanding endlessly fascinating. Wherever my wandering creativity takes me— from realism to abstraction\, whimsy or introspection\, even to the farthest reaches of conceptual art\, these foundational elements are the fertile ground to which I have always returned.” \nIMAGE: \nPERIODIC COMPOSITION— 6 over 1     36″ X 36″   Archival Pigment Print from Digital Original       2022

SUMMARY:MY WORLD
DESCRIPTION:Pastel Paintings by Dallas Looman. \nDallas Looman was drawn to painting at a very young age\, first as a different form of communication\, one he felt more comfortable with. As an autistic child going through school\, he would draw pictures to share what had happened at school with his mom. But that way of communicating soon became an artistic passion\, drawn by the creative process and discovering his fluency with the pastel media.\n\nIn 2013\, one of his pieces was selected by “Very Special Arts\,” the international organization on arts and disability\, for an exhibition of artwork by emerging young artists with disabilities\, held at the S. Dillon Ripley Center of the Smithsonian Institute in Washington\, DC.\n\n\nMY WORLD opens Friday September 2nd with the Artist Reception\, between 5 and 8pm\, and runs until the end of September.\n\nNo appointments are necessary to visit the Elusie Gallery\nwhich is open:\n\nTuesday through Friday from 10:30 am to 5:30pm\nand Saturday from 9am to noon

SUMMARY:“Picturing the Ordinary” Brian Chu\, Front Gallery\, Paintings
DESCRIPTION:Oil paintings based on observation\, mainly from New England locations\, Chu’s work anchors on the transformation and discovery in the direct-painting process\, which involves translating the artist’s vision onto canvases. His preferred subjects are ordinary places and things in his environment\, for he finds beauty and complexity in the act of seeing and painting.

SUMMARY:Discovering Path - Paintings by Karen Iglehart
DESCRIPTION:Discovering Path opens with Artwalk and runs through October 29. \nThe paintings in this exhibit represent a process of exploring form and seeing\nwhere it might go. I started at the beginning of Covid with two\ntriangles seeming to attempt a connection in open space \, and\neventually arrived at the more literal Path series. Where are we\ngoing? There are no markers and no end in sight. On the canvas and\nin the outer world.\nThese ideas are related to my experience in Buddhism. Everything\nwe experience is changing. Unpredictability and impermanence are\nthe norm\, from the small day to day to the much bigger picture of\nour lives.\nI love the surprises that occur when painting…just need to notice\nthem. Sometimes a brush mark disappears\, sometimes I hold onto\nit. It may stay until suddenly it doesn’t work and is painted over …\nthat is the delight of painting in oil.\nThe tension of edges is important to me. It is the point of energy\nand transformation…the working with very small\, but important\npoints of color that transform the entire painting.

SUMMARY:Cooper Paintings by Catherine Gibbs
DESCRIPTION:Through my paintings\, I’ve become attentive to the splendid drama of my everyday world. Nature is a subject matter that I always return to. In this series of small landscape paintings\, I’ve used techniques that I have developed over many years. The difference is that I’ve painted on copper instead of canvas. I believe the reflective quality gives my work a new dimension.
