Join us as we open the doors of our gallery space for an opening reception celebrating the work of our featured artist\, Juli Kirk. You’ll get an opportunity to talk with Juli about their work and get a free Easthampton Clay magnet. \nHeres what Juli has to say:\nI have spent the majority of my artistic career as an oil painter. When EHC opened 3 1/2 years ago I was one of its earliest members. I immediately got sucked into the joy of pot making. As I experimented\, I became increasingly bewildered and excited by the endless possibilities of this new medium. My most recent experiments are adventuring into figurative sculpture. I hope this is just the beginning of a long ceramic journey.

SUMMARY:How Do Your People Call Earth? - JuPong Lin
DESCRIPTION:This community-engaged performance was first initiated in 2016 by JuPong Lin with\nNicole Oxendine\, in response to the removal of many “nature” words from the Oxford\nJunior Dictionary. Words that replaced the removed words included; blog\, broadband\,\nchatroom\, celebrity\, voicemail. \nThis project resists the values expressed in the decision to replace names of animal and\nplant beings with “technological” words. We honor the language and names of our\nanimal\, plant and fungal kin and will speak and write their names in all the many\nlanguages spoken in every part of the Earth. \nThis community-engaged project offers a way for Earthbeing lovers to insist on the vital\nneed to keep alive the names by which we call Earth\, Wind\, Water\, Sun & Fire\, and all\nthe many diverse beings who live and move with each other in relationship with our\nBeloved Earth. We create a ceremonial space to recover the “lost words” by which we\ncall our earth and our nonhuman kin. \nYou can contribute to the project with paperfolds of canoes\, cranes or horseshoe crabs\nand/or responding to the poetrywriting prompts below. Throughout the month of June\nyou can deliver these contributions in-person to CitySpace\, 43 Main Street\,\nEasthampton\, MA 01027. There are pins in a shell on the floor to attach your piece to\nthe curtain. Or you can mail your piece to CitySpace and JuPong will attach it.\nIf you missed the workshop where JuPong facilitated practices of Earth connection\nthrough qigong\, poetry and paperfolding\, you can view video of a previous workshop on\nyoutube\, with an instructional poem on the canoe fold.

DESCRIPTION:Stay cool in CitySpace’s Blue Room in Old Town Hall during Art Walk Easthampton. Enjoy classic songs from Spain and Latin America performed by guitarist Tony Silva. Free and open to all. \nTony Silva has been playing acoustic guitar for over 40 years. Early influences range from Stephen Stills to Andrés Segovia. His father Pedro Silva was from Chile\, and passed on the love of the music of the Andes Mountains. As a solo performer\, Silva specializes in Rumba Flamenca (the style of the Gipsy Kings). He also plays a wide range of music from Latin America\, and transcribes flute and harp music from the Andes for guitar. His repertoire includes rumbas\, waltzes\, boleros\, and huapangos with songs from Spain\, Mexico\, Cuba\, Colombia\, Brazil\, Venezuela\, Argentina\, Paraguay\, Peru\, Chile and lots of Gipsy Kings!

DESCRIPTION:The Black Labyrinth and Comics N More are joining forces to assemble a group art show of our favorite Heroes and Villains on August 5th 2022. The show will not only be in conjunction with Easthampton City Art Walk\, but it will be the first art show that The Black Labyrinth has held since before the pandemic\, and our five year anniversary.  Heroes and Villains will be a celebration of comics\, and the characters that we love.  A night for us all to get together and share that love with our community and each other.

SUMMARY:Mountain River Taiko 10th Anniversary Concert
DESCRIPTION:Mountain River Taiko is celebrating 10 years!! Join us to celebrate our big milestone with an outdoor performance at Millside Park. \n\n\nAbout this event\n\n\n\nTaiko is a full-body performance art that blends physicality and musicality\, movement and rhythm. Originating in Japan but molded by a globalized world\, taiko performances pay homage to ancient rhythms as well as innovate contemporary beats. \nIn addition to our dedicated community performers\, our performance will feature special guests from across the US who have shared taiko with us regularly: Tiffany Tamaribuchi (Sacramento Taiko Dan)\, Esther Vandecar\, and Eileen Morgan (Fushicho Daiko). We will also be joined by local musicians Abby Kingman and Shido Hiroyuki\, who have been instrumental to MRT’s history. \nThis is an outdoor event– Please bring adequate preparations for outdoor conditions (sunscreen\, bug spray\, umbrellas\, canopies\, etc). Seating is on the lawn in front of the bandshell. Bring lawn chairs\, a picnic blanket\, and perhaps even a picnic! Crooked Stick Pops and Vegan Pizza Land will be vending food on-site.

DESCRIPTION:Easthampton Clay is a new and growing ceramics community with a large\, well-equipped studio space that is shared by a diverse group of ceramic artists and potters. Come to our gallery opening reception celebrating the work of featured member artist\, Lexie Burke! You’ll get an opportunity to talk with Lexie about their work and discover the work of over 20 member artists.  \nHere’s what Lexie has to say: \nMy names Lexie and I’m a painter turned Potter. In 2019 I picked up a paint brush for the first time in over a decade and it’s the best thing I ever did for myself. Since then art and pottery have truly been therapy to me. There’s something about the world getting quiet and your mind shutting off that makes it so peaceful. I love making bright pottery pieces with color and I tend to always make mugs. (Probably my tea drinking habit\, there’s something so comforting about a nice pottery mug). My paintings tend to change on the pottery from what season it is\, whether it’s ocean or Halloween\, etc. It’s nice because each functional mug comes with a unique hand painted art piece!

DESCRIPTION:Peter entered creative photography more than 50 years ago at a time when color imagery was generally seen as commercial and vulgar\, while the “purity” of the black-to-white tonal spectrum was felt (somewhat paradoxically) better-suited to both: a) the artistic-aesthetic transmission of meaning — and b) the pursuit of documentary objectivity. SUMMARY:Foundations—  Geometry\, Color\, and Other Curious Phenomena\, KC Scott
DESCRIPTION:The Exhibition contains drawings\, paintings\, Digital works\, and archival prints completed over the course of 55 years.  \nKC Scott returned to art full time following a nearly 50 year career in graphics and advertising. Educated at the Art Institute of Chicago\, Yale University\, School of Visual arts (NYC)\, he holds an MFA from University of Massachusetts. His work has been shown locally in the Valley and in New York City. He has been a member of the Oxbow Gallery since 2017.  \nScott says “Geometry\, color\, symmetry\, periodicity\, mathematical constants\, and mathematical oddities such as the Fibonacci sequence— I find these building blocks of perception and understanding endlessly fascinating. DESCRIPTION:Opening reception for an exhibit of recent abstract embroidery work and watercolors by Amherst artist Bonnie Sennott. The show will include her two yearlong stitch journal projects\, A Year in Thread and Daily Thread\, which documented the changing seasons through daily embroidery\, as well as her 2022 “stones and water” watercolor series. The show runs September 2-30 in the ECA Gallery\, open Wednesdays and Fridays\, noon-2 pm and Saturday 9/18\, 10 am-noon.
