SUMMARY:Cottage Street Sings!
DESCRIPTION:Cottage Street Sings! \nThe Cottage Street Cultural District Committee is planning a new and exciting event called Cottage Street Sings! Communal singing is a vibrant part of many cultural traditions from around the world. In that spirit\, the Cottage Street Cultural District will host a communal singing event that aims to bring together members of the community to celebrate winter seasonal music of a wide variety of cultures\, faiths\, and traditions. \nThe event will take place on the Cottage Street promenade along Nashawannuck Pond at the entryway to the cultural district. It will be held at 5pm on December 8\, 2018 and will last 30 minutes. Participants will sing seasonal songs from a variety of religious and cultural traditions. The event will culminate in the lighting of Cottage Street\, including the tree on the pond along with artist projections on various buildings along the street. This event is open to all and it is the committee’s goal to have all traditions represented during the event. \nCottage Street Sings also coincides with two other exciting events in the district: Art Walk\, which begins at 5pm\, and the annual Easthampton Chaunukah Festival\, which will begin at 5:30pm directly following Cottage Street Sings. \nAll of the music that we gather will be distributed to the public in advance in the form of recordings and notated music and lyrics so that all can participate in joyful singing on Cottage Street. You can find all of that music right here on this event page. \nThis is event is FREE\, family-friendly\, and open to ALL! We hope to see you there!! \nThe Cottage Street Cultural District is an initiative of Easthampton City Arts and the City of Easthampton.

SUMMARY:Visual Poems
DESCRIPTION:ARTIST: Kate Whittaker \nTITLE: Visual Poems \nARTIST RECEPTION: Saturday October 13\, 5-8pm \nEXHIBITION DATES & GALLERY HOURS: October 2-30 \n“These images\, in hanging scroll format\, are composed of details of my paintings layered\, and sometimes overlain\, with photographs I have taken during my travels. As a poem can be said to paint an image\, here the two artforms of painting and photography combine to form a poetic narrative. They find their ‘voice’ in rhythmic patterns\, stanzaic structure\, calligraphic gesture\, juxtaposition of subjects\, tone\, color\, mirrored repetition\, and such. They are a response to my experience of our ancestral record and history\, commonality of language and expression\, the natural world\, its beauty\, and our effect upon it.” \nARTIST WEBSITE: www.katewhittaker.com

SUMMARY:Meditations
DESCRIPTION:“With an eye made quiet by the power\nOf harmony\, and the deep power of joy\,\nWe see into the life of things” -William Wordsworth \n“Meditations” is a capstone show to a summer outpouring of artist\,\nZachary Gedelman. The period represented signifies transformation\nartistically\, and is rooted in the practice of Insight Meditation.\nInfluenced deeply by the rich blossoming of a Western Massachusetts\nsummer unfolding\, the work reflects a loving\, kind awareness of an\nartist in touch with the natural world and the heart. \nWe hope that you will join us for the October 13 opening that will include an open mediation and poetry readings beginning at  4:30pm with a family friendly art making table available throughout the opening (5-8 pm).  On view through Wednesday\, November 7th.

SUMMARY:Historic Haunted Houses
DESCRIPTION:Black & White Photography by Jesse Merrick and Rosa Sullivan-Merrick\, a father and daughter collaboration.\n\nIn this photo collection we have documented old houses and buildings that have a history of reported paranormal activity. We researched numerous locations and traveled to different sites to photograph “haunted” houses\, mostly in Massachusetts. We talked to people who have worked at some of these haunted houses and told us stories about their first-hand ghostly experiences. We did not add any special effects to these candid photos so the atmosphere would be more authentic.\nWe hope you enjoy our haunted house photos\, and that our collection sparks an interest in the unique history of these unusual buildings.\n-Jesse and Rosa\n\nJesse Merrick is a professional photographer and a  public high school art/technology teacher.  You can find more of his work at:\nhttps://www.jmerrickmedia.com/\n\nRosa Sullivan-Merrick is a public middle school student and this is her first art show.

SUMMARY:Images by Danielle Tait
DESCRIPTION:Photographs by Danielle Tait / Art Walk Reception at Mt. Tom’s Homemade Ice Cream \nArtist Statement: The images in this exhibit are from my travels both near and far from home. As an artist I am often drawn to the textures\, patterns\, and colors that you can only see as you get closer to an object. The act of photographing something or someone allows me to observe all of these little details and see the subject in a whole new way. With my camera in hand I am able to interact with my surroundings differently\, observing life around me more intimately. \nAfter graduating from Carnegie Mellon University in 1999 with a BFA\, I began to pursue a career in photography. Although I spend most of my time photographing people\, I always appreciate the quiet moments just wandering and finding beauty in all the small details around me.
