SUMMARY:The Long Twilight - Paintings and Drawings Inspired by Iceland by Caren Hyde
DESCRIPTION:In her upcoming show at Easthampton’s Oxbow Gallery in November\, Florence-based artist Caren Hyde will exhibit more than 20 paintings and drawings inspired by Iceland’s wild\, rugged\, and dramatic landscapes that captivated her during recent travels to the country. “The Long Twilight\,” the title Hyde has given her first major exhibition at the gallery\, seeks to explore the mysterious quality of the light and mood that prevails during Iceland’s summer nights\, when the sky never fully darkens and a misty atmosphere takes over the land.

SUMMARY:"Landscapes from Home" by Ron Michaud in Oxbow's Front Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Ron Michaud writes about his work in Oxbow’s upcoming front gallery show: “As the title suggests\, the paintings in this exhibition are inspired by the place that is my home. I have lived and worked in Western Massachusetts nearly all my adult life. I know it well. It is truly home to me. So\, it seems perfectly natural that as a visual artist\, a painter\, I would take as a part of my identity\, the places that I see on a daily basis; places that I have been seeing and interacting with for many years; places that I have returned to often at different times of the day or the season; places that I have found particularly visually intriguing. My years in academia provided an opportunity to engage in inquiry\, exploration and research related to color and vision. My early work consisted of geometric abstract paintings and drawings directly related to those early inquiries. For some twenty or so years now\, I have taken this evolving fascination with color and vision and sought to answer many questions raised in my own mind about its role in the interpretation of the physical world I have come to know. This brought me to some of the places and images most closely associated with that sense of home. The paintings in this exhibition are examples of my continuing fascination with color and vision. The landscapes that I selected evoke for me a personal sense of “home” while at the same time provide a convenient vehicle for demonstrating some of the ways that color and vision help me to interpret\, negotiate and understand the physical world of my everyday life.” \nStop by Oxbow Gallery on December 6th from 4-7pm during the Easthampton City Art Walk to view the works of art and meet the artist!

SUMMARY:ECA Gallery Presents: Kristi W. Colbert
DESCRIPTION:“From the Pieces” is a rotating exhibition of painted paper collage landscapes by Kristi W. Colbert\, a Leverett-based mixed media artist inspired by country life in Western Massachusetts\, as well as travels and wanderlust beyond. Composed of snippets from the recycle bin and bits of junk mail painted with gouache\, colored pencil\, and neocolor crayon\, Kristi’s work explores and evokes a palpable sense of place\, as transportive landscapes\, seascapes\, and cityscapes emerge from reclaimed paper fragments. As a self-identified perfectionist with the world closing in around her at the onset of the pandemic\, Kristi turned to collage as an experimental means of breaking out – outside the lines\, out of her perfectionism\, out of the confines of her home. Right away\, she fell in love with the freedom and duality of collage\, in both process and aesthetic. It is painterly and sculptural; deconstructive and reconstructive; realistic and abstract; intricate and unfussy. Her work is a record of places traveled\, and a map to what lies ahead. And\, situated in a time of such global heartbreak and destruction\, Kristi’s work is a meditative practice in\, and energetic manifestation of\, hope and repair – gluing together pieces of a broken world to remind us all of the beauty that surrounds us. Ultimately\, through her work\, Kristi invites viewers to revel in multiplicity\, sink into the wonder of place\, and make meaning from scrap. \nKristi’s work has been exhibited by galleries in Massachusetts\, Connecticut\, New York\, and Michigan\, recognized by the Massachusetts Cultural Council\, featured in Gillette Stadium and the Massachusetts State House\, and has a fast growing body of collectors near and far. \nwww.kristicolbert.com\nIG @kristicolbertstudio

SUMMARY:Will Sillin and Elizabeth Lehman at Oxbow Gallery in "Ground Truth"
DESCRIPTION:Oxbow Gallery will exhibit the works of Elizabeth Lehman and Will Sillin in January’s front gallery show “Ground Truth”.  Lehman interprets “Ground Truth” with an emphasis on “Ground”\, as an artist with passion for being physically present and one with the landscapes she paints. She states “I return to the same location in different seasons and at various times of day for close\, direct observation over many days or weeks. The particulars of a given place at a given time make it unique.” Sillin describes “Ground Truth” as “the term used by mappers and researchers for direct observations made in the field.” He interprets the title with an emphasis on “Truth”\, as he captures his subject with great care in an attempt to maintain the truth of its nature. Sillin will be sharing the front gallery show with Oxbow artist Elizabeth Lehman. \nPlease join the artists for the artist reception on Saturday\, January 10th from 4-7pm.

SUMMARY:"Tension" by Catherine Swift at Oxbow Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Oxbow Gallery will exhibit the work of Catherine Swift in her new show “Tension”. Swift has always been an artist\, but developed an acute interest in painting over the past 20 years. She describes it as a critical form of expression\, which she uses to communicate experiences\, thoughts\, and feelings. The basic tenet of her work is an “internal landscape” which she presents through shape\, color\, texture\, and abstract images. \nJoin us for the artist reception during Easthampton City Art walk: Saturday\, March 7th\, 4pm to 7 pm.

SUMMARY:"Particle Theory" by Katherine Weinstein
DESCRIPTION:Oxbow Gallery will exhibit the work of Katherine Weinstein in her new show “Particle Theory”. With this body of work\, Weinstein continues to reinterpret her practice\, based on her classical figurative training; embracing a freeness to refine rhythms as she discovers them and finding meaning in ambiguity. The human centered principles of her classical training concede to her curiosity about some unifying force of nature which she feels\, but doesn’t quite understand. \nPlease join the artists at Oxbow Gallery on Saturday\, April 4\, 2026 from 4-7pm for the artist reception!

SUMMARY:Seen and Unseen by Kathy Ford
DESCRIPTION:Oxbow’s Front Gallery will display the quilts of Kathy Ford in her upcoming show “Seen and Unseen”. \nFord states “I use fabric\, thread\, and the structure of quiltmaking to create abstract geometrics and/or representational collage\, watching for what lives in the spaces between composition and stitching. Seeing what lives in the spaces between things is exciting for me. I like to think of this process as discovering order. Within composition\, handwork\, or machine stitching\, the ‘unseen’ that emerges happens most naturally in slow motion\, most often as I am moving back and forth between two developing quilts and allowing time to do its work too.”

SUMMARY:"Tricennium" - Oxbow Gallery Group Show
DESCRIPTION:Bonnie Ashmore\, Joanna Dunn\, David Schell\, Cyndy Sperry\, and Jason Travers will be exhibiting works in their group show “Tricennium” in Oxbow’s Back Gallery. \nTricennium is a celebration of 30 years of making art and community and connection.  The 5 artists comprising Tricennium were privileged to be part of two classes that worked side by side in a warren of studios in the Cassel building at American University’s MFA program in the late 1990’s.  The spirit of that time continues to carry through our work.  The artists express gratitude that they have the time and space to show together.
