SUMMARY:ECA Gallery Presents: Kristi W. Colbert
DESCRIPTION:“From the Pieces” is a rotating exhibition of painted paper collage landscapes by Kristi W. Colbert\, a Leverett-based mixed media artist inspired by country life in Western Massachusetts\, as well as travels and wanderlust beyond. Composed of snippets from the recycle bin and bits of junk mail painted with gouache\, colored pencil\, and neocolor crayon\, Kristi’s work explores and evokes a palpable sense of place\, as transportive landscapes\, seascapes\, and cityscapes emerge from reclaimed paper fragments. As a self-identified perfectionist with the world closing in around her at the onset of the pandemic\, Kristi turned to collage as an experimental means of breaking out – outside the lines\, out of her perfectionism\, out of the confines of her home. Right away\, she fell in love with the freedom and duality of collage\, in both process and aesthetic. It is painterly and sculptural; deconstructive and reconstructive; realistic and abstract; intricate and unfussy. Her work is a record of places traveled\, and a map to what lies ahead. And\, situated in a time of such global heartbreak and destruction\, Kristi’s work is a meditative practice in\, and energetic manifestation of\, hope and repair – gluing together pieces of a broken world to remind us all of the beauty that surrounds us. SUMMARY:"Landscapes from Home" by Ron Michaud in Oxbow's Front Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Ron Michaud writes about his work in Oxbow’s upcoming front gallery show: “As the title suggests\, the paintings in this exhibition are inspired by the place that is my home. I have lived and worked in Western Massachusetts nearly all my adult life. I know it well. It is truly home to me. So\, it seems perfectly natural that as a visual artist\, a painter\, I would take as a part of my identity\, the places that I see on a daily basis; places that I have been seeing and interacting with for many years; places that I have returned to often at different times of the day or the season; places that I have found particularly visually intriguing. My years in academia provided an opportunity to engage in inquiry\, exploration and research related to color and vision. My early work consisted of geometric abstract paintings and drawings directly related to those early inquiries. For some twenty or so years now\, I have taken this evolving fascination with color and vision and sought to answer many questions raised in my own mind about its role in the interpretation of the physical world I have come to know. This brought me to some of the places and images most closely associated with that sense of home. The paintings in this exhibition are examples of my continuing fascination with color and vision. The landscapes that I selected evoke for me a personal sense of “home” while at the same time provide a convenient vehicle for demonstrating some of the ways that color and vision help me to interpret\, negotiate and understand the physical world of my everyday life.” \nStop by Oxbow Gallery on December 6th from 4-7pm during the Easthampton City Art Walk to view the works of art and meet the artist!

SUMMARY:THIS LONG ARC: fiber sculptures by Terry Jenoure at ECA Gallery
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition speaks to themes of freedom from old patterns. Breaking from previous artistic approaches\, Terry Jenoure’s fiber sculptures are mostly unplanned shapes built almost exclusively with recycled cotton. During the artwalk on August 10\, two listening stations will be set up. These feature an experiment she made on my violin. Creating a notation system for herself\, she read the sculptures as musical “scores\,” translating their visual characteristics into music.  Sound engineer Warren Amerman then further sculpted the sounds digitally.

For the last two years of the pandemic\, Amy has utilized her fear and discomfort to be prolific in her color pencil/watercolor pencil creations. Small circles energies have crept into many of her latest works\, helping to soothe her soul and please the eyes and bring hope the audience. Live musical landscapes\, from the musical group Panthalasa\, will accompany Amy’s art on May 6 from 6-9 (during Art Walk)\, bringing joy and hope to all the senses.

DESCRIPTION:Wedge Works Art and Home\, one of Easthampton’s newest art venues\, invites local artists to participate in “Plein Air Easthampton 2019”; an event and exhibit that will fill the gallery walls from October 13th to November 7. All works will be undertaken on provided and registered 16 x 20 canvases that will be available for artists to take with them to that special site and scene within the city of Easthampton to capture those unique “observable truths” that can only arrive by painting in the open air. There will be a Plein Air Gala reception during the October art walk (Saturday\, October 12\, 5 – 8 pm) to celebrate with a salon-style event that will culminate in the awarding of various prizes as judged by a distinquished local art devotee (to be named later).\nCanvases will be assigned at the gallery beginning September 1 until all thirty have been registered. Finished works must be delivered to the gallery for hanging between October 2 – 10. The gallery will receive a 20% commission on any sold works. Each year\, the event’s visioning\, planning\, and implementation is a real team effort between ECA\, the Cottage Street Cultural District Subcommittee\, local sponsors\, and more than 100+ volunteers. \n\nThere’s something for everyone at Cultural Chaos! Puppets\, stilt-walkers\, circus acts\, dancers\, musicians\, and performance artists – plus a variety of restaurants\, artists\, makers\, poets\, and literaries. Creative hearts from every discipline line the street and open their businesses’ doors to share their unique wares and imaginations with the 10\,000+ attendees who come from far and wide each year. Please come join the fun of Easthampton’s home-spun Chaos and experience a full day of food\, music\, open studios\, and performances highlighting the Cottage Street Cultural District! \nApplications to participate in Cultural Chaos as an artist\, musician\, or performer are accepted annually.
