SUMMARY:Plein Air Easthampton 2019
DESCRIPTION:Wedge Works Art and Home\, one of Easthampton’s newest art venues\, invites local artists to participate in “Plein Air Easthampton 2019”; an event and exhibit that will fill the gallery walls from October 13th to November 7. All works will be undertaken on provided and registered 16 x 20 canvases that will be available for artists to take with them to that special site and scene within the city of Easthampton to capture those unique “observable truths” that can only arrive by painting in the open air. There will be a Plein Air Gala reception during the October art walk (Saturday\, October 12\, 5 – 8 pm) to celebrate with a salon-style event that will culminate in the awarding of various prizes as judged by a distinquished local art devotee (to be named later).\nCanvases will be assigned at the gallery beginning September 1 until all thirty have been registered. Finished works must be delivered to the gallery for hanging between October 2 – 10. The gallery will receive a 20% commission on any sold works. There will be a 20 dollar registration fee for participation. register during gallery hours.\nRegister in person. Wedge Works Art and Home is located at 26 Cottage Street in Easthampton. DESCRIPTION:Visit Easthampton Media during Art Walk on Friday February 7th from 6-9pm and view 2 Local Documentaries: \nShowing at 6pm & 7:30pm – “Albert Kiesling Remembered”\nSynopsis: Albert Kiesling (1885-1968) was born in Clinton\, MA and moved to Easthampton to work in the textile mills. He could often be seen in the 1940s through the 1960s around town with an easel and paintbox\, capturing a town landmark or rural landscapes. Albert also created big snow sculptures and elaborate parade floats that dazzled the locals. In this short film\, Easthampton residents recall fond memories of the artist and his work. \nShowing at 6:30pm & 7:45pm – “The Story of Nashawannuck Pond”\nSynopsis: Nashawannuck Pond was originally created in 1847 by the Williston – Knight Button Company to provide hydroelectric power to the industrial mills. In this documentary\, Easthampton residents talk about the history\, memories\, and what the pond means to them. \nBoth films were produced through Easthampton Media.\nThis event is part of 7th Annual Easthampton WinterFest\nFREE & Open to the public!

DESCRIPTION:February has typically been the month for lovers at the Elusie Gallery. \n\nBut this year we find it difficult to celebrate love when intolerance and discrimination seem to be the new normal\, and the basic right to love and be loved is being taken away from so many\, whether it is the mass incarceration of children at the southern border or the wave of new anti-LGBTQ legislation being passed or considered in many parts of the country.\n\nBecause we should not accept this new normal\, and because LOVE needs to be celebrated\, always\, we have invited artists to submit artwork that celebrate a more universal kind of love\, the love of our neighbors\, ALL our neighbors\, the ones across the street\, across the border or across gender identifications. Love thy Beautiful Neighbors showcases the love of our differences\, these beautiful differences that still – and always will – define and unite this country.

SUMMARY:31 Days of Kawase Hasui
DESCRIPTION:Moonlit Sea Prints is proud to announce its newest online-only exhibit\, “31 Days of Kawase Hasui”\, for the month of July. \nBorn in Tokyo in 1883\, Kawase Hasui became a master of Japanese landscape prints. He began his journey as an illustrator for books and magazines but soon discovered his heart belonged to printmaking through the insistence of his first publisher Watanabe Shozaburo. In 1918\, he began creating shin-hanga (“new prints”) and designed more than 600 prints during the following 40 years\, working with the publishers of Watanabe Shōzaburō\, Doi Hangaten\, Kawaguchi/Sakai-Kawaguchi\, Baba Nobuhiko\, and Bijutsu Shuppansha. \nHasui’s artwork encompasses a period of immense change and turmoil in Japan\, including the rapid Westernization in the 1880s\, the Sino-Japanese Wars\, the Russo-Japanese War\, World War I and World War II and its aftermath. Perhaps in response to these upheavals\, Hasui’s prints often bring about a sense of nostalgia for an “old” Japan while having scenes of quietness\, stillness\, and profound beauty. Perhaps in today’s technological alienation many of us can relate to the need for these moments. \nDuring July of 2023 we will begin with 30 Hasui prints ranging from his earliest shin-hanga to his later post-war works\, and then adding 10 new pieces each week for a total of 60 outstanding works. \nYou can view the growing collection all month long at https://moonlitseaprints.com/hasui/ \nMoonlit Sea Prints is a small gallery in the Eastworks Building of Easthampton MA that buys\, sells\, and educates on the genre of antique Japanese woodblock prints from roughly 1780-2000.
