DESCRIPTION:Putting  the East in Easthampton: The Great Indo-Tibetan Bazaar at the Elusie Gallery\nCurated by Elisa Mishori\, a long time lover\, collector and merchant of fine arts and crafts from the Indian Sub-continent\, this unique exhibit/market place will feature a large selection of museum quality Tibetan thankas: Taras\, Buddhas\, Saraswatis\, Mandalas… and wrathful deities too\, all personally selected on location with the artists; gorgeous cushions and quilts sewn from antique embroidered Indian dress bodices; a large variety of small Buddhist and Hindu statuary – brass\, marble\, mango wood\, semi-precious stone\, enamel\, the largest collection of Ganeshas you have ever seen; handwoven silk scarves and stoles; \nImpressive hindu batiks\, and more. \nElisa Mishory is a world traveler\, California born but Berkshire based; art lover\, beauty lover\, and long-time collector. She collaborates directly with artisans in India\, Nepal and Thailand. Aficionado of handmade textiles\, hand-carved semi-precious stones\, painstakingly handpainted Tibetan thankas\, and timeless spiritual relics of all sorts. \nThis exhibit is truly a celebration of life-affirming crafstmanship\, spiritual artistry and timeless beauty. A portion of the proceeds raised from this Exhibition will go to support Women on Wings\, a not-for-profit organization whose mission it is to create one million jobs and economic autonomy for rural women in India. \nThe exhibit runs from September 8 to October 6 with an Opening Reception Saturday September 8 between 5 and 8pm. DESCRIPTION:Artist: Arielle Jessop \nThis is a body of work that emerged after a summer into fall spent farming. I was so deeply struck by how connecting with nature changed the way I observed it. Finding peaceful moments in a chilly morning mist or discovering little hidden gardens when walking through giant fields became a sort of meditation for me. I wanted to capture the feeling of magic that can happen when you spend so much time in the dirt. I wanted to really do justice to what the earth can give us when we work with it and honor it. All works are watercolor on paper\, many are framed by the artist with handmade frames. All works are for sale.

SUMMARY:Beyond the Surface
DESCRIPTION:“Beyond the Surface” is a celebration of the visual language of art that is steeped in history and traditions. This exhibit represents the merging of two artists\, Lynne Adams and Michael MacTavish\, whose optimism and keen love of nature form the unifying thread of their art. How it speaks to them and what arises for them within can be seen in their work. However\, the way these conversations with nature show up on their canvases is very different. \nThere is so much going on on the surface of each piece of art\, but at the same time the surface is hinting at a much more in depth calling to a deeper and more profound sense of what is. It is the suggestion of mystery that is so important to Michael and Lynne’s work. The beauty on the surface is merely a guidepost for you to delve into what is beyond. \nLynne and Michael were exploring new approaches to their painting and thought it would be interesting to exhibit work that resulted from their explorations. They have a strong affinity for each others’ art\, and they were curious to see how their work might resonate using similar motifs such as trees\, sky\, mountains and water. \nTheir impressionistic styles are soothing and inviting\, bringing a sense of peacefulness and tranquility. They explore the use of color and vibrancy in a way that allows the viewer to create his or her own understanding of the painting while enjoying the sense of familiarity.

SUMMARY:Creatures of Discomfort
DESCRIPTION:Anthropomorphic Taxidermy by Erica Pinto\nStarting her career as an an avid photographer and potter from western Ma\, Erica found her interests twist in a new direction. In the mid 90’s she began her studies at the Birds in Woods Taxidermy Academy\, and acquired a deep study of the human body while attending the Connecticut Massage Therapy School. Her anthropomorphic taxidermy\, with a macabre and wry sense of humor\, is a nod to the Victorian craze.  She breathes new life into creatures with traditional taxidermy methods while adding seductive sculptural elements. Her work is a window into the humour noir of absurd beauty\, provoking discomfort as well as amusement.

She maintains her studio in Eaasthampton where\, beyond her artistic practice\, she is engaged in a study of color theory and color mixing for artists and in\ndoing research into the lives of oft-times forgotten (despite their excellence) artists who are women.

DESCRIPTION:Cottage Street Sings! \nThe Cottage Street Cultural District Committee is planning a new and exciting event called Cottage Street Sings! Communal singing is a vibrant part of many cultural traditions from around the world. In that spirit\, the Cottage Street Cultural District will host a communal singing event that aims to bring together members of the community to celebrate winter seasonal music of a wide variety of cultures\, faiths\, and traditions. \nThe event will take place on the Cottage Street promenade along Nashawannuck Pond at the entryway to the cultural district. It will be held at 5pm on December 8\, 2018 and will last 30 minutes. Participants will sing seasonal songs from a variety of religious and cultural traditions. The event will culminate in the lighting of Cottage Street\, including the tree on the pond along with artist projections on various buildings along the street. This event is open to all and it is the committee’s goal to have all traditions represented during the event. \nCottage Street Sings also coincides with two other exciting events in the district: Art Walk\, which begins at 5pm\, and the annual Easthampton Chaunukah Festival\, which will begin at 5:30pm directly following Cottage Street Sings. \nAll of the music that we gather will be distributed to the public in advance in the form of recordings and notated music and lyrics so that all can participate in joyful singing on Cottage Street. You can find all of that music right here on this event page. \nThis is event is FREE\, family-friendly\, and open to ALL!
