SUMMARY:Megan Marden & Marjorie Portnow at Oxbow Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Working directly from observation\, Marjorie Portnow paints landscapes that attend to the shifting effects of light\, atmosphere\, and season. Her paintings balance structure with sensitivity through a rich\, painterly approach to color and touch. \nMegan Marden is a Connecticut painter who works both directly from life and in response to historical sources. Her paintings explore the relationship between the physical act of painting and the experience of looking\, allowing images to move fluidly between description and material presence. \nTogether\, the exhibition offers two thoughtful and deeply personal approaches to contemporary painting\, united by a belief that careful looking can transform ordinary experience.

SUMMARY:"The View from my Kayak" by Kate Follett
DESCRIPTION:Vermont artist Kate Follett showcases images of a floating world in The View from my Kayak. These landscape paintings are unified by their viewpoint from the water and the mirrored reflections and endlessly complex patterns of its moving surface. The works explore both the simplification of wide- open views and the painterly patterns of ripples\, waves\, clouds\, and forested mountains. When not painting\, the artist spends as much time as possible outdoors\, and can be found paddling on the water any time it’s not frozen. You can find her work online at www.katefollettfineart.com.
