SUMMARY:“Picturing the Ordinary” Brian Chu\, Front Gallery\, Paintings
DESCRIPTION:Oil paintings based on observation\, mainly from New England locations\, Chu’s work anchors on the transformation and discovery in the direct-painting process\, which involves translating the artist’s vision onto canvases. His preferred subjects are ordinary places and things in his environment\, for he finds beauty and complexity in the act of seeing and painting.

SUMMARY:Discovering Path - Paintings by Karen Iglehart
DESCRIPTION:Discovering Path opens with Artwalk and runs through October 29. \nThe paintings in this exhibit represent a process of exploring form and seeing\nwhere it might go. I started at the beginning of Covid with two\ntriangles seeming to attempt a connection in open space \, and\neventually arrived at the more literal Path series. Where are we\ngoing? There are no markers and no end in sight. On the canvas and\nin the outer world.\nThese ideas are related to my experience in Buddhism. Everything\nwe experience is changing. Unpredictability and impermanence are\nthe norm\, from the small day to day to the much bigger picture of\nour lives.\nI love the surprises that occur when painting…just need to notice\nthem. Sometimes a brush mark disappears\, sometimes I hold onto\nit. It may stay until suddenly it doesn’t work and is painted over …\nthat is the delight of painting in oil.\nThe tension of edges is important to me. It is the point of energy\nand transformation…the working with very small\, but important\npoints of color that transform the entire painting.

SUMMARY:Cooper Paintings by Catherine Gibbs
DESCRIPTION:Through my paintings\, I’ve become attentive to the splendid drama of my everyday world. Nature is a subject matter that I always return to. In this series of small landscape paintings\, I’ve used techniques that I have developed over many years. The difference is that I’ve painted on copper instead of canvas. I believe the reflective quality gives my work a new dimension.

SUMMARY:Easthampton Clay Gallery: Featured Artist Marcia Misiorski
DESCRIPTION:Easthampton Clay is an established and growing ceramics community with a large\, well-equipped studio space that is shared by a diverse group of ceramic artists and potters.  \nCome to our gallery opening reception celebrating the work of featured member artist\, Marcia Misiorski! You’ll get an opportunity to talk with Marcia about her work and discover the work of over 20 member artists.  \nMarcia has had a love affair with art all of her life. She started making pottery in junior high school and hasn’t stopped. Marcia studied Ceramic engineering in college thinking that it was going to be the perfect combination of art and science. It turned out to be primarily science so she continued making pottery in her spare time as she worked in Michigan then Massachusetts. She studied under Charlie Blossom at Oakland Community College in Michigan\, Tom O’Malley at the Worcester Center for Crafts and taught at the Essex Center for Art in Lawrence\, MA. She is currently grateful to be continuing to make art with all the wonderful potters of Easthampton Clay. \nLike many artists\, Marcia takes her inspiration primarily from nature.  In her engineering job she worked in microscopy and takes delight in enlarging minuscule bits to bigger than life objects.  Inspired by pollen only several microns in diameter\, she made a 15”x16” many pointed jar.  It is interestingly coincidental that this piece also resembles aspects of the Covid virus. \nCurrently a practicing acupuncturist\, she follows a long tradition of incorporating the “chi” learned in acupuncture to her art.  While in China it is traditional for acupuncturists to do calligraphy; here Marcia makes her marks on her lightweight porcelain and stoneware earrings. \nHer stoneware salt and pepper shaker set has appeared in “Ceramics Monthly” and one of her pieces is a part of the Worcester Art Museum collection.  \nMarcia says\, “I wish for more time in the day as there are so many ideas in my head waiting to be made into 3D objects.  I’ll happily be occupied making art for many years to come.”
