Sharon Ligorner

encaustics, oils, and collage

My work is process oriented. Without fixed preconceptions, I allow the medium to guide me with lots of scraping and rebuilding along the the way, sometimes leaving a visual history. Every painting starts as an unknown as I try to get out of my own way. Drawing inspiration from natural forms, eastern patterns, and geometry, I interweave them into richly colored, abstract compositions.

Sharon was born in '64 in New Jersey. She holds a BFA from Massachusetts College of Art in 1986. She spent her junior year at Studio Art Centers International in Florence, Italy. She moved to NYC in 1986, after a Skowhegan residency. There she painted and exhibited throughout the US. and moved from New York City to NJ to Easthampton where she lives with her husband and two teens. Sharon is an aromatherapist and teaches kundalini yoga as well.

Sharon has had 7 solo exhibits, including ECA+ and Western New England University. Some small group shows in the valley include "Parallels" at the Grubbs Gallery, Williston, and "Intertwined" with 4 other artists at Hampden Gallery of UMass.
