It begins with a camera: capturing images of deterioration and decline on surfaces like oxidized metal, chipped paint, in aspects of the landscape, and in places of interest like the remnants of The Berlin Wall. I find inspiration in the contrasts, both sensory and intangible in the city of Berlin (Germany) a place where things past and things present exist in a tangle. Boundaries are everywhere, and nowhere, memory is tangible. In the work, digital imagery is applied onto a digital canvas, and by blending and arranging as if applying paint, new impressions of shape and color organically emerge as abstractions born from the real world.
