FIGURATIVELY SPEAKING AT MAP

Eastworks Figure Drawing Club artists debut FIGURATIVELY SPEAKING, an art installation of drawings from live model sessions along with other figurative works at the Mill Art Project (MAP) in Eastworks, 116 Pleasant St. Rm. 137, Easthampton, from March 7 - March 25th. The show will have an opening celebration on Saturday, March 12 from 5-8pm as part of Art Walk Easthampton and will feature a live model posing session for sketching as well as light refreshments. The exhibit and model drawing are free and open to the public.

FIGURATIVELY SPEAKING will feature works by artists who attend the Wednesday figure drawing sessions in Eastworks. See how a selection of artists reflect creatively on the human figure through a variety of mediums and perspectives. In addition to the exhibition, viewers will have the opportunity to sketch mannequins. During the reception (March 12, 5-8PM), a live model will be on view to sketch. Drawing paper and pencils provided for any who would like to experience sketching a live model. An evolving gallery will also be available for exhibit visitors and the members of the Eastworks Figure Drawing Club to add drawings to throughout the exhibit.

Susan Halls, artist and sculptor, founded the Eastworks Figure Drawing Club. Originally hosted in Northampton, the Figure Drawing Club moved to Eastworks. The club’s weekly classes bring in more than 15 people per week and is open to all interested in drawing the figure.

A regular participating artist, Wendy Sherry, commented that she noticed from the start of her involvement with the club that the support of Susan to the artists making a non-judgemental and welcoming group. "Everyone in the group is warm, talented, humble, and good people. I feel inspired being around such magnificent artists," she said.

The Eastworks Figure Drawing Club meets every Wednesday from 9:45am to 12:45pm in Rm 160, across from the restaurant, Riff's. Drop-ins are welcome. $15/session or $10/session to pay in advance for the entire month. The art on exhibit will be available for purchase.
